Swish Participates in the UNICEF Tap Project for World Water Month

March is World Water Month! Here at Swish Suits we cannot imagine a life away from the water. More than this, we cannot imagine our lives without clean water and sanitation. This month Swish Suits will participating UNICEF's Tap Project with UNICEF's Next Generation and we urge you to join us! We think that we cannot live with something as expendable as our cell phones, while millions of children lack access to clean and safe water.  This is not just an inconvenience- it is lethal.  Please join us in a Digital Detox. Putting your phone for 15 minutes = 40 days of clean water for 1 child.  Help UNICEF USA reach it's goal of 24 million days of clean safe water for children around the world. 11017166_842489562489791_60859461657676471_n

The UNICEF Tap project raises money to support UNICEF WASH Programs (water, sanitation, and hygiene.) 36 per cent of the world’s population – 2.5 billion people – lack improved sanitation facilities, and 768 million people still use unsafe drinking water sources.  Unfortunately this means that waterborne illnesses are a leading cause of death for children under five, killing 1,000 children every day globally.

"UNICEF works in more than 100 countries around the world to improve water supplies and sanitation facilities in schools and communities, and to promote safe hygiene practices. We sponsor a wide range of activities and work with many partners, including families, communities, governments and like-minded organizations. In emergencies we provide urgent relief to communities and nations threatened by disrupted water supplies and disease."

-Go to http://tap.unicefusa.org/  on your smart phone and click on "Take the Challenge" then PUT THE PHONE DOWN!

-Every 15 minutes that you do not touch your phone unlocks 1 day of clean water from our sponsors. (Giorgio Armani Fragrances, UNICEF's Next Gen, S'Well, and MediaVest)

-Challenge your friends!  See who can go the longest without touching their phone by posting your results on social media and tagging them. I am almost positive that I will beat my Instagram addicted sister. . . Yes, Chelsea, I am calling you out!

-Donate! Just $1 can provide a child with clean water for 40 days!

You can make an impact this World Water Month.  Help us to stop preventable child deaths by participating in a digital detox!

Swish Nightlife and Lifestyle: DW ALEXANDER, One of our favorite Canadian Bars

So here at Swish, we love it when our friends do very cool things and we can brag about them in our blogs.  You also know that we are big foodies and love to go out with our friends for a few cocktails and bites while discussing our latest adventures.  One of our friends has recently opened a very cool bar and lounge in Toronto that has a Urban-Victorian vibe, and is perfect for those nights out.  Here to tell you more are the good people from DW Alexander!

DW Alexander: One of Toronto's Finest Bars

There are many reasons why a person should visit Toronto. This is the biggest Canadian city and the home of its culture, music and art. It was its busiest industrial town during the 19th century; today it is the city with the biggest offer of different services. Although many things changed during the years, one thing remained the same. Canadians love to drink. There are numerous bars, lounges and night clubs in this area making it a great destination for a vacation. The entertainment options are numerous; there is always some event, promotion or gathering that will satisfy even the neediest of people. The night life and partying in this city never stop. If you are looking for a place with relaxed and friendly atmosphere, try D.W. Alexander, one of the Toronto’s finest bars and lounges.

The first thing that you will notice when you approach this establishment is the brick building. It is an old construction from Victorian Industrial era. This is normal for the downtown T.O. although there aren’t many bars inside similar structures. The staff is very cordial from the moment when you enter the lounge. From the wardrobe to the waiter, everyone is trying to assist you to the best of their ability. You can notice many different intriguing details, such as the bull heads on the walls or the leather aprons worn by the staff. Besides that, the bar looks very modern and up-to-date. The seats are very comfortable and there is a hint of extravagance in the furniture and tables. The black tone adds to that feeling.

The menu consists of Classic Cocktails, D.W. Originals, Liquors, Champagne and Beer, Biggie Smalls and Afters. The cocktails are the thing which made this bar popular. The Classic Cocktails are pretty simple yet very delicious. Most of them are based on gin and lemon or lime juice. Diligence and precision is the secret behind them. D.W. Originals are the mixtures unique to this bar. They are completely different from the Classics. There is much more detail involved into creation of these drinks, they have many ingredients and they are prepared from homemade liquor. Liquors, Champagne and Beer consist of numerous high quality brands that will satisfy even those with the most refined taste.

When it comes to the menu, the management of this bar puts emphasis on quality, not quantity. Biggie Smalls is the name for the food menu. The list is somewhat standard for a lounge. It has mostly snacks and minor dishes so that the customers can have a bite between the drinks. Afters represent deserts. The list itself is empty. You need to ask the waiter what type of fresh cake is available at the given moment.

Sometimes, it is hard to decide which bar we want to visit when the night falls. We all have our preferences when it comes to atmosphere and alcohol. There are only a few places in Toronto which are widely regarded as good bars when it comes to both of those elements. One of them is D.W. Alexander.

Swish Suits in the Huffington Post

This month we were honored to take part in the Kari Feinstein Style Lounge for the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills.  We met many stunning celebrities and members of the press and introduced them to Swish.  One of our favorites was Zorianna Kitt from the Huffington Post.

"Swish Suits had fitted wetsuits specifically designed for women's bodies. Now they can all look like sexy Bond girls! On top of that, Swish Suits are made from limestone, not fossil-fuel-derived neoprene, so they're eco-friendly as well. For non-scuba or non-surfing celebs, Swish also had colorful lightweight jackets and vests that are perfect for aquatic sports, yoga or working out."

Carry Me Back to California: Swish Suits Hikes Santa Monica

We might travel the globe and live all over the world, but the Swish Team feels like California Girls at heart.  We love the sand, surf, sun, and the easy breezy way of life that is endemic to the California Coast. Swish Tree Huggers

As all of you who read this blog or occasionally tune into our social media channels know, we recently participated in the Kari Feinstein Style Lounge for the Golden Globes.  Because we love California so much, we managed to stretch this into a two week trip complete with New Year's Eve in Beverly Hills.

While the Hills are all kind of swanky, the ocean and mountains will always have our heart so we quickly packed up post New Year's and headed to Santa Monica for some beach time and hiking.

One of our favorite hikes was the Temescal Canyon Loop which starts climbing upwards with stunning canyon views and ends with ocean and bluff views.  It is a moderately challenging hike and absolutely stunning!

Of course, being swishies, we had to stop off for some spontaneous yoga. . .

On the cliffs, on a bridge, in a field. . .  We just cannot help it!

Our little escape to Santa Monica was the perfect precursor to all the glitz and glamour of the Golden Globes Style Lounge.  Chelsea is back in snowy Chicago now while I am hanging out and blogging in New York.  Although we might be far away, we will keep rocking our pink swish crop tops and being California girls at heart!

"Haystack towns and smokestack cities Are nothin' I want to see My own house on high ground Is the only place I want to be

So won't you carry me back to California I've been on the road too long Take me to the West Coast, daddy And let me be where I belong"

It seems like everyone is swishing lately!  Model Amber Rose stopped by our booth at the Kari Feinstein Style Lounge for the Golden Globes to pick out some Swish products.

Just a few days later she was spotted by the Daily Mail hiking Runyon Canyon in her Swish One Line Vest in Yellow.  The Daily Mail commented on her stylish ensemble saying, "The 31-year-old displayed her figure as she embarked on her sun-soaked walking workout in a figure-hugging pair of leggings and fitted zip-up top." We are so glad that Amber loves her Swish so much that she wore it immediately!

The model also posted a selfie to her Instagram page of her in her Swish top.  The whole world is coming up swish. Read more here!

Sharkwater Creator and Evironmental Champion Rob Stewart Sports his Swish!

General, Eco Tips and Environmentswishreboot@solomongiles.comComment

Creator of the revoluionary must see documentary, Sharkwater, Rob Stewart is more than a cute documentarian, he is in essence a revolution starter. His brilliant videography takes us on a global crusade to end shark finning. We at Swish LOVED this Sharkwater. We loved it so much that Victoria flew down to Mexico to give him a custom made Swish free diving suit in 2010 while he was filming whale sharks off the coast of Cozumel.

Swish Suits                       Swish Suits

Fabulous, all fabulous! Rob's film helped spark world wide pressure and movements to ban shark finning all over the globe. Rob traveled so much speaking about ocean conservation that until this last year he had not been diving in over four years! But he recently got back into his Swish Suit long enough to film his newest documentary Revolution co directed by Gus Van Sant.

Swish Suits

Rob is an ecological warrior and also a family friend for years of ours, but what excites us most here at Swish is the growing popularity of being eco we see in the Revolution movement. We often get asked why our suits are so expensive. Besides being the only women's wetsuits that are eco and made in North America, our suits are so expensive because we choose to invest in the future. And because we refuse to make crap. Because we choose mother nature over profit. Because, ultimately, we choose you. Swish Suits

I spent about 5 years traveling the world teaching scuba diving and documenting reef ecology after university from 2008-2013. It literally hurt my soul to watch ecologists get on the news talking about the devastation of giant oil spills wearing wetsuits made from petrol. We are so uninformed about what we put on or in our bodies. So I searched around Asia for two years until I found Yamamoto neoprene which produces neoprene from limestone instead of petrol. I then designed suits in over three different continents before I brought it to the USA. We are currently the only wetsuits made exclusively for women in the USA using this revolutionary material. Our suits are also the sexiest out there on the market and Yamamoto neoprene is known to be the best performance neoprene globally. We pride ourselves as being Eco, Sexy, and High Performance. Despite pressure we will not yield and make anything else lower cost/less eco despite a possibly larger market share. We will never.

We need more revolution, more caring, more responsibility to pay to clean up our environment. And this must happen now or we might not have an environment to save. The UN is predicting by 2048 there will not be anymore coral reefs left. Watch Rob Stewart's documentary, buy an eco wetsuit, stop eating meat, donate to Sea Shepard . Be willing to pay for eco products and stand for our Mother Earth!

California: Believe the Hype, Drink the Kool-Aid

"I've got to make it home somehow before I lose my mind. So won't you carry me back to California? I've been on the road too long..." -Carol King

I have always been a little bit skeptical of California.  People seem to go there and never come back. . . Or if they move somewhere else, California is always a basis of comparison.  I recently voyaged out west for two weeks with my mother, who is a true blonde California girl.

I will have to say I fell hard down the rabbit hole, drank all the kool-aid (and Napa wine), and finally believed the hype.

We started our trip in San Francisco for a good friend's wedding.  I loved the architecture and we took a trolley tour between the ceremony and the reception, seeing all the sights including the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Chinatown.  I will take this time to mention that I managed to eat 2 Asian lunches in one day. . .

The next day we were off to horseback ride in Point Reyes.  We had a great time galloping around all the hills.

Next it was time for Napa Valley, where I proceeding to eat and drink my whole entire body weight.  Possibly just on wine tastings!

I concluded my trip in LA.  I really believe that you either love or hate LA.  There is no middle, no ambivalence.  I happen to love LA, which being a New Yorker, is shocking!  I started my LA trip attending the UNICEF's Next Generation Photo Benefit at Skybar.  It was great to see such a successful event for an organization I wholly support.

The rest of the time was spent hiking, going to bars with bowling alleys, or in old mansions, and driving around in the mustang with the top down and our bikini's on.

I managed to see a lot of California on my trip and loved every bit of land, every horseback ride, every glass of wine, every party, and every friend.  While I might never be the quintessential California Girl, I discovered that I am some sort of California Girl (But shh. . . Don't say it too loud.  I am in NYC and I do not want my neighbours to hear you!)

Swish Girls from Around the Globe: Wendy Cohen about her Swish, her Rollerskating, and her Paradise Surf Town!

General, Active Lifestyleswishreboot@solomongiles.comComment

If you told me a year ago I would be living in paradise I would have laughed at you - I already lived there. My few days visit to Playa del Carmen, in January 2010, had turned into 4 years of fun, sun, occasional hard work and this crazy town had now become the place I called 'home'. But in January this year, in true Swish spirit, I thought I'd take an adventure to see what was going on in the rest of the world (or at least another part of Mexico!). Bets were made on how long I would last away from my beloved Riviera Maya.

Playa del Carmen

Cut to 7 months, and many bets won later and I am a proud Oaxaqueña, a resident of the beautiful Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. What changed me from a loyal Playense? Mainly finding a new home at the Hotelito Osa Mariposa. You know that awesome feeling when you meet someone or arrive at a new place and you just know that something in your life is going to change? I found all of that and luckily they asked me to stay and work for them.

Osa Mariposa

My new life is located right in between the famous surf beaches of La Punta and Zicatela, home of the famous Mexican Pipeline, a Mecca for surfers from all over the world. Thanks to the hostel's amazing vegetarian/vegan restaurant and finally being able to use my roller skates, for the first time since arriving in Mexico, I have never felt healthier.

Swish One Line Crop

On a daily basis I get to hang out with surf dudes, beach bums, yogis, writers, cyclists, skaters, swimmers, divers, backpackers, weekend travelers, four cats and the best little black kitten ever.

A couple of years ago I got my life's philosophy tattooed on my back - "Libérate, Descúbrete, Enamórate, No Mires Atrás". I have no idea how long I will stay here but this current adventure has encapsulated it perfectly.

Exploring the world is an amazing experience but when you find your own paradise, stop a while and smell the roses (or do it Swish style and surf, swim, dive, kiteboard, run, climb, skate and see the roses on your way past).
